Refuse Collection Update

Many parishes in the district missed their recycling collections on Saturday 9 January (adjusted from Thursday 7 January due to the new year changes) or Monday 11 January (adjusted from Friday 8 January).

This was caused by a shortage of staff at our waste contractor, Serco, due to illness and isolation relating to Covid, and we apologise for any inconvenience as a result.

In order to catch up, a double collection will take place for those affected on their next scheduled recycling day - either this Thursday or Friday (21 or 22 January).

To help these residents with their excess recycling, two special arrangements are being put in place as a one-off for this upcoming collection only.

1. People with an empty garden bin can use it for their glass, plastic and cans.

2. Cans and plastic can also be placed into black sacks, which must be tied up and placed next to the bin. Please do not put glass into black sacks for the safety of the crews. Glass should be in bins only.

Paper and card must be securely bundled up and be no bigger than 60cm by 60cm, approximately the length of your arm.

Important note - there will be two vehicles out collecting this rubbish. One vehicle will collect the bins/paper and card and a separate vehicle will collect the sacks. Please do not contact Serco after the first collection to say that either the sacks or bins have not been done.

We hope these arrangements will help residents at a time when collections have been difficult and there may still be post-Christmas rubbish hanging around.

Best wishes

Mike
